An Examination of the BMW 2 Series vs. the Acura TLX

At The Automaster BMW in Shelburne, we understand that shopping for a luxurious car that's also fun to drive can lead you to several possibilities and options to choose from. But we also know that with our collection of impeccably crafted, world-class BMW models, our team can help you discover a new car that not only meets your expectations, but also far exceeds them.

Take our compact BMW 2 Series, for example. Equipped with signature BMW materials and features, for example. Our customers appreciate the 2 Series model's power, performance, and signature BMW qualities. But we understand if the Acura TLX, a similarly equipped luxury sedan from a competing brand name, is also vying for your attention. To help make your shopping experience easier, we've highlighted several key differences and similarities between the two models here.

Power and Performance

With winters that can last several months and an annual average of more 70 inches of snow in the Burlington and Williston area, it's easy to understand why so many local drivers prefer their vehicle to come with the peace of mind and added traction of all-wheel drive. With the BMW 2 Series, you can get all the sleek sedan style you love, with renowned BMW xDrive, the carmaker's all-wheel drive system. This car comes with standard front-wheel drive at the base model, but the rest of the lineup has standard xDrive, making it easier for you to get your car equipped with the amenities you want.

The Acura TLX, on the other hand, doesn't offer all-wheel drive as a possibility or option. Every TLX model has standard front-wheel drive. There is a separate, specialized TX Type S model that has AWD, but it will set you back a lot more than the top-of-the-line 2 Series. While the top-tier 2 Series with AWD goes for around $45,000, the Type S Acura TLX with AWD has a starting price of around $53,000.

In addition to the more-widely accessible all-wheel drive system for the BMW 2 Series, our luxury car is also better on gas than the Acura TLX. EPA fuel economy ratings for the BMW 2 Series put it at 24 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. Meanwhile, the Acura is put at 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and just 25 mpg combined.

Interior and Space

Looking at these two sedans side by side, it quickly becomes clear that the Acura TLX is actually the larger of the two models. While the BMW 2 Series is roughly the same height, the TLX is longer and has a wider wheelbase than the BMW. Despite this difference, however, the BMW 2 Series manages to maximize its interior dimensions better than the competition and offer a ride that's more spacious for Stowe drivers.

The BMW 2 Series offers you, and your passengers, more headroom to stretch out in, with nearly 40 inches of headroom for the front seat, compared to 37 inches in the front seat of the Acura. Plus, the BMW has a rear trunk space for cargo that surpasses the Acura for utility and space, with more than 15 cubic feet of available storage space in the 2 Series, and just 13 cubic feet in the trunk of the TLX.

Standard and Optional Equipment

While both of these cars give Plattsburgh, NY drivers a similar range of standard features, the BMW comes out ahead in a couple areas. For example, every 2 Series gets standard blind-spot monitoring and a standard navigation system, both of which are only available on upper levels with the Acura TLX.

Additionally, the BMW 2 Series can be customized using a menu of add-on and standalone features. Even the entry-level, base model 2 Series can be personalized with high-end options, such as an automated self-parking system, which isn't available across the board with the TLX and is only optional on top-tier models.
